Question Asked:

"I have had persistent cough for the past 4 years. I treated it a couple of times. From cough syrups to antibiotics. In 2013, a doctors diagnosed Asthma, so I started using Inhalers. It still did not go so I was referred to a Cardiologist at a teaching hospital to made me use all kinds of inhalers and drugs and also diagnosed Asthma. Another Doctor based in the UK said it's probably severe allergy, then another Doctor friend said it's called Reflux cough and told me to use another antibiotics for 3 months. I have done MRI and x-rays and all seem to be well. But till today, I still cough, I still have bad chest pains, I most times spit out phlegm. Please help!"

I'm so sorry about all you have gone through. Even though I've not see your xray or MRI, I still believe one of the two investigations should suggest something. The cough is chronic and I think infectious causes like tuberculosis should also be considered. I don't know if your doctors thought of this while evaluating you. Have you lost weight this illness has started? When is this cough usually worse? In the day or night?Do you know your HIV status? I will like to have answers. Sorry
