Question Asked:

"I'm 27yrs old, single, in 2013, I was having a discharge from both breast, I sought for medical attention. I did a prolactin test, the result was 5.5ng/ml, I was placed on a drug (Bromocriptine), that is the name of the drug, but the issue is, lf I take the drugs, the discharge will stop, but once I finish the drugs, the discharge will resurface again, and is coming from the right hand side of the breast (one breast), I'm worried, and I need urgent medical advice, some research I did, I discovered that this causes infertility in woman, I need help, sorry for the long write up."

Hello, yes it may be a cause of infertility. But how regular is your period?does the discharge come on its own or when it is pressed? At what day of your cycle was the sample taken?

Wow,i am glad your cycle is regular and also happy to inform you that your prolactin is within normal range.Below are the normal values Non-pregnant/nonlactating: 2-29 ng/mL Pregnant: 10-209 ng/mL (third trimester) Most women with high prolactin have irregular period. The fact that it is also from one breast shows that its not due to high prolactin, because both breasts get the same supply,so what affects one should affect the other. Now,i will advice that you go for a breast examination.Or better still, describe the fluid to us.

The test result is normal.Possible causes of discharge include overstimulation of the breast, birth control pills (contraceptives),certain drugs, breast infection etc.i will advice you go for a breast examination. But if it doesnt come spontaneously or all the time,i would say do not worry about this.
