Good afternoon Doctor, My younger brother has been itching since Monday night. He has these rashes or swellings clustered around several parts of his body. The rashes are not spread evenly but are clustered although quite much. What could be the possible cause? I have attached pictures of his body and the 'rashes'.

Hello, You did well by attaching the pictures. They are not rashes per say. They are called wheals. It's a symptom of an allergic reaction. Likely he was exposed to something that triggered the itching. It might be water, dust, cloth, food or even drugs. You need to identify that trigger by paying close attention to what he does that makes it start. How old is he?

Thank you for your prompt response Dr. He is 15 years. From what I was told, he was sent to pluck Jerusalem leaves nearby. Upon his return, he casually mentioned that the water of the leaf (which usually itches) touched him, but this is not the first time he is plucking the leaves or the water is touching him. My sister thought that it was chicken pox, she applied baking soda on those areas and later applied an ointment for pox on it. The wheals have been on his body since then and the itching too. What is the solution?

It's does not look like chicken pox. Get Cetirizine tablet, let him take 10mg 2 times daily Also let him get a triple action cream like funbact A. That's all he needs. He should stop playing with the leaf okay? Take care

Good morning Doc. I refer to our earlier conversation. Thank you for the prescription. We didn't buy the drugs prescribed because the boy got better the next day. The wheals left his body about two days after. However, just yesterday, he began to itch again and had another patches on his back which looks different from the last. I have attached the picture. I live far away from my siblings so it is difficult to really do something and my parents are not around either. Please help. N.B. My younger sister applied bitter leaf and palm oil on it and said it relieved him a bit.

Good morning, It is still the same reaction. Those he lives with should be observant henceforth. This present reaction is more than the first, the next might be more if care is not taken. So they have to be on the look out for the trigger. It might be water, cloth, cream, bedding, anything. Let him get earlier prescription Cetirizine tab 10mg twice daily and a triple action cream like funbact A. These are just for relief, you need to find and avoid the trigger for a lasting solution. Take care

thank you doc.he is better now I have a case of complaints of headache, fever, lack of appetite and general weakness.can you give me a diagnosis

Hello, It's likely malaria because that's common in our environment. You need to do a rapid diagnostic test to confirm this. If it's positive, use ACT and paracetamol. If it doesn't resolve in 2 days, you will need to see your doctor. Take care
