Good afternoon sir and thanks for contacting me. First, this symptom can be from a number of diseases, I will like to ask you some few questions to get it clearly -when was the first time she noticed the blood? -is this the first time she will notice such or it has been recurrent? -is the blood much? Can you quantify it? -is she passing loose stool? -is her stool very hard at times? -did she notice if the blood comes with her stool or after stooling? These questions are for clarity sake and to get to the root of the matter on time. Please ask her and get back to me

What could be responsible for pain in the upper left of the abdomen which radiates to the side and at times to the back especially when I ve not eaten my breakfast on time?

Hello, It might be the pain of peptic ulcer disease. You can take antacids for now and see if it improves. Suspension Gascol 10mls 3 times daily for now. Also try and eat on time even if it's little and avoid analgesics in the NSAID group for now (ibuprofen, piroxicam etc). I'm yet to get your reply to the questions I asked earlier. Thanks

I m sorry for the delay on the first question. -like 2-3 teaspoon full of blood, -at times the stool is hard & at times soft. -at times the blood do accompany the stool and at times after the stool, -it do reoccur - started like a month ago. Thanks sir

It's okay. Lower gastrointestinal bleeding in an elderly should be thoroughly evaluated because of the risk of malignancies. If this has been on for a month, then, she needs to see a General Surgeon for a thorough evaluation. It might be haemorrhoid too. Whichever way, she will benefit from a visit to a General surgeon. You can see one in any specialist centre, federal medical centers and teaching hospitals around you. If you have difficulty finding one, send an email to findadoctor@kangpe.com with your name, location and phone number. Thanks

It might the weather condition. It might also be due to dehydration. Take enough water daily. You can also apply a petroleum jelly or lip gloss to reduce the rate at which your lip dries off.

sir. a family member (she should be above 40 yrs ) had been having rheumatism - severe pain in the left arm/hand which extends to the back. what drugs can she Used?
    Dr. Idris Q answered:

Rheumatism is not that simple to diagnose. She needs to be seen by a Rhematologist before this diagnosis can be made. Unilateral arm pain can be a pointer to other things e. g past injury, nature of her work , posture among other things. She needs to be examined by her Doctor, if possible have a X-ray done to be sure all is well. For now, let her take Tab diclofenac 50mg twice daily after food for 3 days.

good morning sir. I was able to get this information from her. - no past injury, but it could be as a result of the nature of her work; a farmer - she used to singlehandedly fetch water and carry like 12 loads of knapsack sprayer in a day around year 2013. she said the pain started from the waist after the work and later moved to this unilateral arm pain. Meanwhile, she will get the Tab earlier prescribed. Thanks sir.

OK. If there is no history trauma, then, it might be a musculoskeletal pain and not likely rheumatoid in nature. She can get a topical analgesic cream. e. g Neurogesic. It's better than chronic use of diclofenac. Take care
