Question Asked:

"Good afternoon. My 5 year old son always opens his mouth while sleeping. Each time I close his mouth he will open it again. He eats well when he wants to eat but he is lean and I am worried about it. I give him the best meals for him to add some flesh but to no avail. I have seen an ENT doctor who said he would undergo a surgical operation to reduce tonsils in his throat. He says the tonsils are too long. I just want to know what you think about it especially concerning the surgical operation. I hope it is the right thing to do or could there be any other thing worrying him? "

Hello madam, I can understand your concerns. he might have adenoids issue and that's what the ENT doctor wants to operate.that can affect breathing in kids and make them snore.let him eat what he can.you can seek second opinion from another ENT surgeon. take care

Sorry are you suggesting he could have the surgical operation? Is it safe and how long will it take for the surgery wound to heal? Immediately after the surgery, will he be able to eat normally or how will he be eating? Have they been conducting this kind of operation on children of that age?

Hello again madam, adenoidectomy (the surgery) have been done on 2year olds. the surgeon that will do the operation will answer all your question regarding recovery and duration of the operation. but it will be for your child's benefit if the surgeon says it's the way forward.
