"my son is 28months. he's had cough and catarrh for while. I first bought a mild cough syrup when the cough was mild and not producing phlegm. but it got worse. I then bought a broncholyte and still no improvement. I administer augumentin. I thereafter checked him into hospital. he was diagnosed with bacterial infection and treated. after the hospital treatment, we were asked to follow up with Zeenat, another antibiotics, and malaria drug. he became well but the cough returned just two or three days after by which time I had traveled. I asked my wife to take him back to the hospital, which by the way is our family hospital and also a child and women specialist hospital. she was told that no other antibiotics could be administered for now after the doses he's had. she was advised to keep the baby warm, double his Vit C Daily Dose from 5ml to 10ml. and also to administer some ointment. I was expecting they'll prescribe some investigating test. on my own, I have stopped the usage of an aircooler that I thought could be a source. what do you advise. it's tough watching him breathe with mouth. Hello sorry about that. A lot of times such symptoms in babies are usually viral and will resolve on their own whether you do something or not. I believe the possibility of asthma must also have been ruled out by the hospital. I doubt they may want to subject the child to undue distress by doing tests like chest xray etc. I will say give it a few days but if the mom is concerned (mother's know when something is really wrong) then the child should be taken back and investigations requested.

I just treated a boil (armpit). it has barely gone when another sprouted, same armpit. This happened on the last day of the antibiotics dose. I thought the antibiotics prescribed should clear the new one also but it's growing. should I repeat the dose or is this an indication of something else?

No need to repeat the antibiotics. The thing you can do is to check your blood sugar and make sure it's normal. If it is then nothing to worry about.

You can use some pain relief like ibuprofen. If it is ripe you can use a clean handkerchief in bearably hot water to squeeze it, if not you can put palm oil on it twice daily till it ripens.

hello. I have what first seemed like athletes foot. I treated it with tiocosid. when it didn't disappear, I bought a cream, Lamisil, but it didn't improve. thinking it may not be fungal infection, I tried penicillin ointment and now ABF 3 cream. the change to antibacterial, just two days ago, has produced only minimal change, not enough to show adequate cure. what do I do? the infection is in between my second and third toes on both feet and it has this scaly appearance. sometimes the scale dries and I can peel it off sometimes removing it tears into skin and it bleeds.

The many creams you have used may also be contributory to the non healing. It does sound like athlete's foot. However it may fail to heal even with right treatment if the foot is always exposed to moisture, eg not being properly dried, or wearing the same socks or tight shoes etc or you use the same towel to clean it. This causes a reinfection. I think you should first stop various creams and keep the foot clean and dry for a few days and see. Get a new towel to clean that part and keep clean.
