Question Asked:

"I have been addicted to pentazocine injection since 2010. it came about as a treatment for abdominal pains when am pregnant or having a miscarriage. I was injecting myself on my thighs and now it's so hard that I cannot bend my left knee. the doctors said its a fibrosis of the quadriceps. I tried physiotherapy for a year and no positive results in 2015. the thighs are both disfigured due to an infection that sets in. X-ray images showed that the knee bone is not affected. I have completely lost the ability to bend my left knee and the right one is also fast becoming as the left one. I have been to two rehabilitation center in 2010 and 2014 yet, am still struggling with the habit till date. I take an average of 20 ampoules in a day with a minimum of 5 ampoules as a dose. my question is, can a surgery fix my ability to bend the knee? please, due to the nature of my condition, am seeking for doctor and patient confidentiality because I may lose my job and my integrity will be tarnished. am 32 years old and separated from my husband since I couldn't carry a pregnancy to term. will I be able to gain my knee flexible again? I don't know what to do "

hello, sorry about the current problems. No matter how bad it seems,an intervention is needed ASAP. You will need the input of an orthopaedic surgeon and a psychiatrist. The surgeon for the knee problem and the psychiatrist to help you get over the drug addiction. it will surely take a lot of time to fix this, but believe me,it will pay off eventually.you just have to persevere and stick to the management plan no matter how long it takes.your confidentiality is well protected as long as you don't reveal your name and contact details on your own.can you get an orthopaedic surgeon as well as a psychiatrist?

I saw an orthopedic surgeon in 2015 and the only recommendations was physiotherapy only since the bone was not affected. the issue is with the muscles. unless the doctor doesn't know how to to tackle my case.

was it at a teaching hospital? if the doctor says physiotherapy, then you must continue the physio.ulthe recovery is a gradual process.the muscles could have been affected but gradually, with physiotherapy, power will return to them

Good morning,am so sorry about this.Seeing this picture, with an ulcer in view, you must see a plastic surgeon rather than an orthopaedic surgeon.you can change hospitals if you are not satisfied with the former, but please be patient enough to follow the management plan. I wish you well ma.
