Question Asked:

"Hello Doctor. I am a Sickle Cell patient susceptible to cold harmattan period we are in. I want to know what foods I should be eating or things I should be doing to keep harmattan cold away from affecting me until harmattan ends and what to do in order to remain healthy for years to come with little or no crisis at all, I prefer the latter. Also, I will be in the USA in January and I heard the winter there is strong, how do I protect myself from the effect of the cold winter? Are there foods or medication to that effect? I detest cold a lot for what it does to my body. Thankful for your answer."

Hello. you need to wear protective clothes all over your body. prevent mosquito bites by use of nets always, take your routine hematinics and prophylactic antimalarials regularly and drink a lot of water. For the food part, your hygiene is more important as your diet should be as good as for the normal population. best wishes.
