Hello doc nice to be on board..was a bit skeptical becos I stumbled across this forum by error but am a bit settled now. I am a mum of 3 and after my last son I did iucd family planning.Ever since then anytime I am expecting my period I develop irritations vaginally .No foul smell, no odd discharge, no redness just scratches madly. This is usually few days to my period onset not before or after.I have researched and learnt d downsides of iucd.but I experience this few days before menses nd when menses stops it stops till d next month.I have used topical cream though not sure it worked cos my period started and d itching stopped. What can I do?

Hello madam. It looks like you have tried a few topical things.have you tried vagisil. the intrauterine device you are using,is it the Mirena(hormonal) or copper..Either way,one important thing you have mentioned is that it only started with the IUCD.it may be that as you menstruate the hormonal or copper contained in the IUCD flows out to irritate your vulva area or it may increase your susceptibility to yeast infections around this time.Good there is no abnormal discharge. Sometimes the best treatment to a problem is avoidance. Have you considered taking it out and using a different contraceptive? This may just solve our problem here.Looking forward to a reply

it is non hormonal doctor.. copperT. The itchy feeling cones before my period starts not after or during menses
    Dr. Akeem A answered:
Okay...I can propose a few reasons why this may be happening. 1.The natural change in progesterone levels that brings about menstruation can lead to the itching. 2.the copper T itself may be having an add on effect on your hormone levels at this point in your cycle worsening itching. 3.not likely to be vaginosis or candida since you have reported no discharge. However it may be worth having a swab done in a good lab.Candida can easily occur due to change in hormones in the menstrual cycle. 4. consider using cotton under wear if you don't. 5.Stop douching if you do. 6. Since this started with the onset of the copper T.Consider changing your contraceptive method.

I avoid douching also..Is it ok to clean d vagina with dettol soap and water? Is it ok to have odour like sweaty odour and what can be used to eliminate or what can increase an odorless smell and fresh smell
    Dr. Akeem A answered:

Good evening Mada..what we generally advice is not to clean the inside of the vagina with anything..the vagina cleans itself.wash the surface with water or soap&water BUT not the interior.they distrupt the normal flora and give rise to bacterial vaginosis.Excessive hair can lead to sweating which can lead to an unpleasant smell.ofcourse, douchn lead to vaginosis which smells bad too.the vagina itslef may have a smell due to hormonal changes during the cycle but it should not be offensive.Good exercise and kegel exercise too is good for a healthy vagina.

what method is best to remove pubic hair or get a clean shave down dia? also my son had hot water burns on his legs@10mths..nw 2yrs wat can be used to clear d scars which r still there but actually better than before
    Dr. Akeem A answered:

Good morning madam...Unfortunately with the scar, there isn't much you can do. You can try make up.Laser therapy is probably far fetched and may not make such a remarkable improvement. If you give it more time,it may still fade further. For shaving, its really about what suits your skin...some people react to shaving sticks, some react to waxing and some react to shaving powders. Again, laser hair removal and some prescription creams by dermatologists if available in Nigeria are long term/permanent options.I'd suggest you just use a VERY good shaving stick/powder or seek out a dermatologist for advice.

Good day doc thanks for ur response. what non hormonal methods r there for family planning..non hormonal n non weight gain? Also my son sometimes has rashes on d scar part only so I rule out a lergy..dos burn victims have scar related rashes..skineal is usually applied and works...I wonder if he gets it from other kids in school or wot..y only d scar parts

o again..symptoms of asthma include a dry cough and wheeze.Maybe brought on by dust; smoke, exercise, associated with a family history sometimes.Hormonal contraceptive is usually believed to cause weight gain though not always true. it's now known that that combined pill doesn't. Depot injection has also been known to likely cause weight gain. Your weight won't affect most types of contraception, and most contraception won't make you put on weight. However, the contraceptive injection has been linked to a small amount of weight gain if used for two years or more.about your son's rash.i can't be too sure till I take a look.

no family history doc....she just gets cough on and off.....d arm implant have seen ppl gaim weight seriously..r u saying all ds is a myth
    Dr. Akeem A answered:
Lol. ..Well, based on medical research which was what I quoted. .its believed that only the depot injects really cause weight gain . research also says that pills and implants don't cause any sort of significant weight gain.Women gain weight anyway slowly over the years whether or not on contraception. All I can really say is the research shows that only depot injection causes weight gain. your child may likely have asthma if she is wheezing.Especially IF she RESPONDS to ventolin inhalers. However she may well outgrow it if it's not severe.the trick to managing asthma is avoidance of triggers and use of the inhalers.Steriod inhalers if necessary.

I have odour in my vagina like sweaty pee smell all d time...is d vagina suppose to smell fresh
    Dr. Akeem A answered:
Hello madam.sorry for the late reply. Well the vagina shouldn't really have any smell, however simple things like dry sweat, unclean under wear can alter it's smell to give it that which you complain of.you should just wash it's surface(vulva) with soap and water.if you are having an unusual vaginal discharge with this smell, itchy, redness or soreness, then you should have it checked out.if.there is a discharge to.swab,it will be swabbed and cultured.you may be given antibiotics though based on a presumptive diagnosis.

no discharge ..what kind of soap can I use?and is warm water ok? I usually wash with my normal antibacterial soap that I use to bath
    Dr. Akeem A answered:
I don't think there is necessarily any special soap. However because you don't want to kill bacteria inside your vagina any light toilet soap is ok.Remember you shouldn't douch(washing inside your vagina) anyway.so it probably doesn't.matter what you use,so far you don't wash inside.

I have been itching like mad and have eczema on my outer vagina...could it be d shaving cream I used and what can give me total smoothness on my vagins?..I also grow hair on my chin been using shaving stick which triples it wot can help ..?to reduce d hotmoebs causing it growing when am not a man
    Dr. Akeem A answered:
Hello madam....yes it could be the shaving cream..especially if you noticed it after that particular cream. It may be worth stopping it.have you used shaving creams before this. You can apply aftershave(to reduce the itching) and change your razor(if you use) with every shave. Achieving total smoothness may be difficult if not impossible.a cosmetologist or beautician maybe able to help you with that.the same thing pretty much applies to the face.hair removal can be difficult and a dermatologist or beautician is in a better position to help.

Yes,you can apply cream on the vulva skin. No problems with that. Try regular soap and a shaving razor stick next time. Take loratidine tab tonight or cetrizine tab.10mg daily...also apply a soothing lotion like E-45 itch relief cream.
