Question Asked:

"Good morning. I notice my face is getting unevenly lighter than the rest of my body. I 've stopped every application of any facial product on my face but my face isn't getting darker back because I'm dark skinned. Is there a blood test that i can do to know what I'm reacting to and why I'm having facial discoloration? I want to get a test done at a standard laboratory. And how long will it take my skin to heal? Thank u."

How long has this been going on? is this experienced only on the face? has it ever occured? What sort of creams were used in the past since u mentioned that you have stopped them? any history of endocrine disorder. The best will be to see a dermatologist for a proper review..meanwhile application of petroleum jelly would be advised oending the time u arrange for the visit. All the best

It started about 2weeks ago.I use only organic products for my skin and its just my face that is getting lighter. It has not happened before. Seeing a dermatologist would be great but would cost what I don't have. No history of endocrine disorder in the past. I'm SS. Could that be an issue? Isn't there a test I can do for now cos my sis reacts to collagen and only got to know about this when she had terrible acne for some weeks. She was told to go for a blood test. I just don't know what kinda test I would say I wanna undergo. Pls any other option apart from paying a visit to a dermatologist

Thanks for the clarification. ..one cannot rule out ss as a cause of your skin condition, though not a common feature. other skin conditions like eczema, ptyriasis vesicolor or vitiligo are common conditions to rule out here. A skin allergy testing may come handy in detecting the cause if you are reacting to any offending agent. That being said, a dermatologist would be the best option. Here detailed history and examination would be conducted before ordering specific labs. I will suggest this if symptoms worsen..otherwise u can give some more time for healing or rejuvenation process to occur. I hope I've been helpful?

You have been helpful on that particular issue. Issue number 2: I have discharges from my vagina on regular occasions. Though not with a funny smell but makes me comfortable cos my underwear gets damp. I have gone for test but nothing funny was detected. Is advisable to use vaginal wash cos I used to use them some years back and also can one just treat yeast infection regularly?

Nice to hear that was helpful. Your vaginal discharge seems to beca physiological disharge which is normal and varies in quantity depending on d menstrual cycle since there isn't any offensive odour..i am assuming there isn't any itching or color changes from the clear discharge and also the test which has been normal so far. If contrary.,ie itching, discolouration, pelvic pain to mention a few, one would suspect an infection and needs evaluation and treatment urgently. As regards washing the vagina, a clean water is recommended avoid using antiseptics as this can wipe out the normal flora and lead to infections. No i would discourage treating candidiases or any other infection without proper diagnosis or indication as this may lead to resistance strains

Thank u doctor. But can I use vagina wash rather than water alone. The one I used to use before (Summer's Eve) isn't antiseptic. I feel not so clean down there when I use water alone. Don't know if I'm right though but that's how I feel . Thank u.

Evidence based literature showe that the vagina fluid washes itself. i am not familiar with the composition of the vagina wash. washing the vagina area/vulva with mild soap and water is ok but anything going inside should be free from chemicals that distorts the normal PH thus destroying the flora. i will get back to you on that as regards vaginal wash if it is advised..hope this tip is helpful?

i guess its ok since the literature on it says its been formulated to the vaginal ph ie it won't alter normal flora.
