Hello madam.Good morning.depending on the body parts. stitches have times they should stay to cause proper healing.the face should have its such es removed withing 4 to 5days. The upper legs and tummy can have thier stitches removed by 7 days once healing has occured. The lower legs and back may take up to 14 days. So I may say it's too long except that your wound isn't healed.for that reason it may be kept on longer than a week. It doesn't necessarily have any side effects that I have ever come across. but once it has achieved it's healing aim, there no use for it to be there. It is technically a foreign body and there is a possibility the body can form excessive healing tissue around it if left too long.however this is not something I have seen before as most stiches are removed with 1 day to 2 weeks. cheers madam.
