I very much agree with your Dr that the fibroid may not stop you from having babies depending on it's location and size.
That said, folic acid doesn't help one to get pregnant faster. Women take it just to build up their store of folic acid since the fetus would require much of it especially in early pregnancy
Folic acid is also said to aide growth of fibroids. In essence, taking folic acid can make your fibroid grow bigger, which may then affect your chances of taking in.
I suggest you exercise caution with taking folic acid at this stage
